How do religions help people to deal with evil?
Buddhism
In this religion, there is no such thing as absolute evil, but instead lower realms of rebirth populated by beings such demons - supernatural beings who are driven by anger, jealousy, lust for power and vengeance. But it’s possible for those evil creatures to overcome their own nature and be reborn in the human or divine realms. According to the Buddhist writer H.E. Tsem Rinpoche, it’s possible for Buddhists to overcome the power of evil spirits by chanting the refuge mantra.
Islam
Muslims say prayers to ask for Allah’s protection against evil. In one such traditional prayer, a believer asks Allah to “save me from the hearings and sights of my enemies, those who envy me, and those who intend to oppress me…[and] make all those who intend evil to me, among Your creatures, be under my thumb, and protect me against the evil of Satan.” The prayer also humbly asks that the believer be purified from his own sins and allowed to enter heaven instead of being sent to hell.
Judaism
Judaism: The traditional Jewish custom of affixing a mezuzah—a scroll of parchment containing a biblical passage, inside a container--to the doorframe of a dwelling is more than just an expression of the faith. The custom, which started in Exodus when Jews in Egypt marked their doorposts to avoid God’s punishment of the Egyptians, is also intended to symbolize God’s protection of the inhabitants.
